We spent all morning showing you why we love our PLNs so much and telling you what we see as the advantages to being involved. So what do you think?
In the comment section, let us know what you think. What do you think the benefit of being in a PLN will be for you, and which PLN tool do you like the most so far?
Any network, but especially professional/personal networks, is truly a benefit, as these networks remind us that we are not alone in the universe. At this moment, I see Blogging and Twitter as the most useful tools for me. With some luck, I'll get some ideas to help with events in the classroom and ideas on how to better serve my 21st century clientele.
ReplyDeleteWhy reinvent the wheel? Teaching is a profession in which people can "borrow" from others and it is okay. If someone else has figured out a great way to teach a certain portion of your material, why would you spend time recreating what is there for you to use. A PLN can assist with these elements because it would be a way to network with others that can assist you as well as you assist them. Using twitter can open you up to gain information from others that are more versed in certain areas. I think this is a wonderful idea!
ReplyDeletePLNs are going to be a great tool. I love using Google reader to keep up to date, for enjoyment, and to converse with like minded individuals.TweetDeck seems to add more to my repertoire as a professional.

I think that we have all had a PLN and just didn't realize it, whether it was bouncing ideas off of colleagues or other Pinnacle Leaders, reading professional magazine or the like. I started blogging personally at the beginning of the year and I started following a few educator blogs. I have learned some pretty cool things from these people! I am also pretty excited about using Twitter to find professional and technology resources.
ReplyDeletePLNs seem like they would be another tool in our toolbox as educators. We never have enough time to find the resources we need and PLNs seem to be a way to help us find more information in less time. Education has always been about sharing and taking something someone else has used and making it your own.
ReplyDeletePLNs are a great way to connect to others that are doing the same things we are in our classroom. It is also a great way to change/update our teaching resources. I really like using google reader organize everything I want to follow. As Jason said, it is easier to have them all in one place and not have to search all over the web for each specific one. I hope to use this and even add other blogs and sites to follow as I get more comfortable with the tool.
ReplyDeleteI am one that is always going to Google to find new things to bring math alive to my students. With PLNs it cuts my work in half. I really like using Google Reader, it has everything there that I need.
ReplyDeletePLNs are a great way to have information come to you. I liked google reader the best because I felt I could get exactly what I wanted. I wish I had more time to spend reading blogs or following people on twitter, I'm just not sure how realistic it is for me during the school year.
ReplyDeletePLN's would tie in with my PLC's at my school. PLN's are a great way to connect with others outside of my school and county. It is a great way to collaborate with others. There is so much more out there in the world wide web and this is a great way to connect with others. It can lead to endless possibilities for resources.
ReplyDeleteI think that PLN's are a great way to get new ideas! Why reinvent the wheel?? I have found lots of great teacher websites and blogs to follow! Google reader is a great way to organize all blogs and websites that you are following.
ReplyDeleteBeing part of a PLN is all about sharing resources and ideas. As I start teaching a new curriculum this year, I can work with teachers at my school to get ideas about how to teach the new content. However, why would I limit myself to only a handful of people when there is a global community filled with ideas about how to teach material!
ReplyDeleteI really like PLN's I think they are a great way to connect with other teachers outside of our own school. I really like Google Reader and adding all the teacher blogs. I have already found some great ideas from reading others blogs.
ReplyDeletePLN is a great tool to connect and network with others.Google reader is a great place to organize all the people and places that I would to follow. As for Twitter I would use it to find my technology resources and to follow the people in the "know".
ReplyDeleteI loved the Google Reader. This will help with organizations.
ReplyDeleteBlogs are full of all kinds of potential. I would classify myself as a “Blog Reader.” Although, when I need an answer or solution I cannot find, I will blog.
By the way, anyone know of a recipe for canning homemade spaghetti?
I have followed the blogs of those I like or trust their opinions.
I think that PLN's are great. I really like finding ways to using Twitter or Edmodo in the classroom. Although at first, I think I would be better at following others on Twitter then posting my own tweets. Everyone has such great ideas! I think putting Twitter on my Droid will help me look at the tweets I follow when I have five minutes here or there. I really like Edmodo and think it has many advantages and it will be simple yet effective to implement it in my classroom.
ReplyDeleteThe benefit of being in a PLN will be the wonderful and useful knowledge that I will gain. I plan to use Google Reader as well to gain a plethora of knowledge. I subscribed to many blogs yesterday and I'm sure as I start to regularly check them that I will know which blogs to continue following and which blogs I might want to unsubscribe to. Maybe I'll keep them all, they all sounded great!
My hope is that I will continue blogging this year and using Twitter, and maybe one day someone will follow me on Blogger or Twitter.
PLN's are a great idea. It is a great way to gain knowledge of many different ideas from many different people from all over the world. I think I will continue to use my Twitter account to ask questions I may have as well as look for new teaching ideas. I also plan on using Google Reader to stay updated on what is new and exciting in education with blogs and other websites.
ReplyDeleteI really like the idea of PLN's because it is a great way to stay on top of the current information in education. The tool that I liked the best was Google Reader. I love having the gadget on my iGoogle page so that I can have a quick easy update on my home screen.
ReplyDeletePLN's are a wonderful way to share information and ideas with each other. It's exciting to start developing such a network of "experts" on so many areas. It lets us explore new ideas and ways to expand our knowledge.
